Before I start with Antebellum Awakening, I would like to take a sentence or two to write about the midway book between Miss Mabel’s School for Girls and Antebellum Awakening called The Isadora Interviews.
The Isadora Interviews are sectioned off into four parts for the different characters besides Bianca to show how they were accepted into Miss Mabel’s school for girls. It was interesting to see the different environments each of the girls went through and it is a short read that you can easily finish in a few hours, let alone a day. I would give it a 2/5 stars only because my favorite character is Bianca and although it was interesting to see the girls, I wasn’t fully involved in the story.

Antebellum Awakening is the second book of the series. It is engulfed completely by darkness and a race against time for Bianca’s life. My rating for it is 3.5/5. The story revolves around Bianca, Chatham Castle and politics. The politics issue with who is in charge in the different sections of the magical world is too hard to keep up with. There are random names thrown around and it is hard to understand which person is ruling the south, north, etc. The Network is getting ready for war because there have been uproars against Bianca’s father and the High Priestess. Again, politics.
With politics on the side, Bianca is being trained by Merrick daily to prepare for what might happen with the war and Miss Mabel. We catch glimpses of Miss Mabel throughout the book and you can still hear her prissy and authoritative voice that makes me want to kill her on the spot. As I mentioned before, it is a darker novel than the first and Bianca seeks strength and control over her powers while also concentrating on obtaining insight into Miss Mabel’s life to get the upper hand.
My favorite scene (WITHOUT SPOILERS) is the last few chapters of the book that takes place in the banquet like hall. It was predictable in the end but boy did it make me want to keep reading. The ending scenes finally pushed me through to finish the book and I’m interested in seeing how the final book will be.
